Ruth Harvey is a Registered Dietitian and owner of Pod&Pea Nutrition specialising in women and infant nutrition.

Services include: weaning workshops, fussy eating, pregnancy nutrition, gestational diabetes, postnatal nutrition, IBS and the low FODMAP diet, healthy eating and sports nutrition.

Ruth offers group sessions and individual 1:1 consultations either in person or using Skype or Zoom. Ruth offers a flexible service and the number of appointments will depend on your needs and preferences.

Ruth also runs an 8 week meal plan called OptiMum Nutrition to help busy Mums to cook delicious and nutritious meals and establish long-term healthy eating habits.

Ruth has been a dietitian for over 10 years, working in the NHS, in research and abroad in Australia. After having 2 children, Ruth established her freelance practice in order to provide other Mums with a reliable source of nutrition information.

Dietitians study for 4 years at university and are registered with the HCPC (like your GP is). They are the only nutrition professional qualified to treat medical conditions. Dietitians use the latest scientific evidence to provide individual nutrition advice and plans that is practical and sustainable – no fads.

Ruth says “I remember learning about how nutrition in the womb effects the long-term health of the child at university and that fascinated me. That has never left me and now I’m a parent I see the fun and frustrations that occur around feeding little ones. I have also witnessed mothers that don’t look after themselves by eating well, because they are too busy looking after their child first. Mothers that are frustrated with their post-baby bodies (me included), women diagnosed with gestational diabetes, but with no further support, mothers that find weaning stressful and those that want so desperately to get pregnant. Nutrition can play a huge part in every stage of our lives and I am excited about specifically helping women at a time which can have a lasting impact on not just the individual, but their family.

As well as focusing on women pre- and post-natally, I am trained in the low FODMAP for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and have helped many women over the years find relief from their gut symptoms. There is a huge amount of research currently taking place into the gut and the bacteria that live within it and this is another of my fascinations.  What we eat and its impact on the gut can have a knock-on effect to our overall health and wellbeing and I can be found promoting gut health and a varied fibre intake at every turn!

I hope that you might seek my support soon and I can help you work out the best diet for you as an individual, help support your journey as a mother and leave you feeling prepared with a nutritional plan for the long-term”.

Ruth also writes articles for media and regular blog posts on her website. Please contact Ruth if you are a business looking for media articles, recipe analysis, public speaking or employee training or wellness days. Ruth has experience in many areas and can discuss your needs in order to provide the services you need.
